Eleven runners remain in contention for Saturday’s Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) in Sydney; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Godolphin runner Allergic remains a clear $2.60 favourite in 2016 Kingston Town Stakes betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of McCreery ($2.60) and Sir John Hawkwood ($6).
Will Allergic justify favouritism and win the 2016 Kingston Town Stakes, or will one of his rivals post an upset?
Allergic has been a strong and consistent performer throughout his entire racing career so far, and should just be too good for his rivals in the Kingston Town Stakes 2016. Running third behind Delicacy and Werther in the 2015 edition of the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m), the Street Cry gelding was a typically smart performer through summer and early autumn; ending his campaign second in each of the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) and Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m). Resuming this time for sixth in the Listed Winter Challenge (1500m), Allergic returned to winning form in the Premier’s Cup Prelude (1800m), but was completely luckless when blocked for a run in the Listed Premier’s Cup (1900m) a fortnight ago.
Sir John Hawkwood ($6)
Consistent galloper Sir John Hawkwood will contest the Kingston Town Stakes first-up and will be perfectly suited to the conditions of the race. Winner of the Listed Christmas Cup (2400m) and finishing second in the Listed Tattersall’s Club Cup (2400m) over summer, Sir John Hawkwood return in autumn for success in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) before running third in the Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m). Running second in each of the Group 3 JRA Cup (2000m) and Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) in winter, the Sir Percy gelding has trialled well in the lead-up to his return and should prove tough to beat on Saturday.
One runner that can never be written out of any Sydney staying race is veteran Junoob, and that is only amplified when Hugh Bowman is in the saddle. Claiming eleven wins and a further thirteen minors through fifty-two career starts so far, Junoob received a freshen-up after finishing second in the Listed Winter Cup (2400m) on July 2nd and returned for a credible third in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) on August 18th. Sure to find a good position off pace from barrier 11, Junoob should be right in the finish of the Kingston Town Stakes.
