12 runners have been included in nominations for Saturday’s 2015 Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens; highlighted by the pending appearance of some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting racing prospects.
Macedon Lodge will be offered several great chances of success at the races this weekend, and Robert Hickmott is set to launch a two-pronged attack in the Group 3 race after including both Doumaran and Foundry in nominations.
Posting two wins and a minor through only seven competitive starts, Doumaran has been set for an appearance in the Melbourne Cup this season, and returned to competition for eighth in the Follow The @ Willhillwolf Handicap (2040m) on September 5th.
Foundry was unable to live up to expectation through the 2014 Spring Carnival, but has reportedly returned a far-better horse this time.
Finishing outside the first three only a handful of times in nine career starts, the Galileo gelding returned on August 22nd for a credible eighth in the Sweeney Estate Agents Handicap (1500m) and will have taken plenty of benefit from the run.
John Sargent is also set to field two runners in the 2015 Kingston Town Stakes after including both Gust Of Wind and Thunder Lady in nominations.
Gust Of Wind experienced a meteoric rise to prominence through the recent Autumn Carnival and will have taken priceless condition from a first-up run for ninth in the talent-rich Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) on August 22nd.
Winning a pair of minor races over 1400m and 1600m upon debuting to racing in February, the Darci Brahma mare ran on for a credible fourth in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) on April 6th before charging home to win the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) by close to three lengths only five days later.
Thunder Lady stamped her claims as one to watch through the 2014 edition of the Spring Carnival, highlighted by a close second in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m).
Clearly needing the run when beating only one runner home in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) upon resuming this year, the Mastercraftsman filly progressed to a credible fifth in the Group 3 Keith F Nolan Classic (1600m) before placing third in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) on March 28th.
Returning to the paddock after placing fifth in the Australian Oaks, Thunder Lady has had to runs over short distances this time and will relish the step-up to 2000m on Saturday.
The 2015 Kingston Town Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
