Just 14 runners remain in the final field for this weekend’s Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, offering punters great value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Having returned to racing in great form this year, Cups-bound stayer La Amistad has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite for success in the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes; currently available at $2.80 odds ahead of Greatwood ($4.80), He’s Your Man ($5.50) and Mr O’Ceirin ($13) at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Will La Amistad justify favouritism and win the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals break-through for an upset victory?
Claiming two wins and six minor places from just ten competitive starts so far, Greatwood will have to overcome the somewhat wide and awkward barrier 12 in the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes, but is a good chance of settling in ideal position within the pack before making a late charge this weekend. Beginning his career under the guidance of notable European trainer Luca Cumani before transferring to the care of Gai Waterhouse at the conclusion of 2013, the Manduro gelding has quickly built to the task over just two Australian starts; finishing third amongst classy competition in the Canterbury Hurlstone RSL Handicap (1400m) first-up before charging home to win the Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) by two lengths on August 30th. Yet to experiences much more than a sprinkling of bets for success this weekend, Greatwood is more than worth consideration to win with in-form hoop Tommy Berry confirmed for the ride.
A strong and consistent performer over major black type staying events through autumn, Opinion will leave from barrier 10 in the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes and arguably offers punters the best value for money at $17 odds to win, or $4.70 to run a place. Finishing a somewhat forgettable sixth in a minor over 1400m first-up this year on February 15th, the Oasis Dream gelding won the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) by three lengths just a fortnight later before finishing second in all of the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m), Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m) and Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) most notably; the latter two behind Melbourne Cup favourite The Offer. Without doubt one of the classiest runners confirmed for the Kingston Town Stakes this year, Opinion has steadily built to the task over two starts this time in and appears primed for an impressive performance this weekend.
Mr O’Ceirin ($13)
Claiming ten race wins and six minor places over his 35 career starts to date, Mr O’Ceirin performed well over major events through the 2014 Winter Racing Carnival and is a great chance of delivering on $3.90 for a place in the Kingston Town Stakes. Finished second to champion mare Streama in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) upon arriving in Queensland on May 3rd, the Postponed gelding continued to build in form and class via a credible seventh in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) and second in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m). Returning to racing after a brief spell for fifth in the Listed Thoroughbred Bloodstock Stakes (1700m) on August 30th, trainer Ciaron Maher is confident Mr O’Ceirin’s supreme fitness will count for a lot in the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes.
