A notable performer over black type events through the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, trainer Ciaron Maher has confirmed Mr O’Ceirin in the final field for the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes.

Finishing a forgettable 11th in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) first-up on April 19th, Mr O’Ceirin responded with a hard-fought second to champion mare Streama in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) on May 3rd before placing a credible seventh in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) on May 17th.

Finishing a close second to Moriarty in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) on May 31st, the Postponed gelding was unlucky in his last two starts in Queensland, but has appeared to have returned from a brief break in good form; finishing a fighting fifth in the Listed Heatherlie Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield on August 30th.

Allocated the ideal barrier 5, Maher revealed he is particularly confident of success in the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes should the Rosehill track continue to experience heavy downpours in the days leading up to Saturday.

Also confirmed in the final field for the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes is classy Team Hawkes-trained runner La Amistad.

Securing a commendable total of five race wins and three minor places from just 12 competitive starts to date, La Amistad is currently featured as a leading chance for success in the 2014 Caulfield Cup off the back of an impressive autumn preparation.

Beating just one runner home in the Smart Track Australian Handicap (1400m) first-up on March 22nd, the Redoute’s Choice mare quickly built to the task; overcoming another unlucky run in the Schweppes FM (1700m) on April 2nd with three consecutive victories, highlighted by the Listed WK McKell Cup (2400m) on May 24th.

Running on for third amongst classy competition in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) first-up on August 21st, La Amistad is offered an excellent chance of returning to the winner’s circle in the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes from the ideal barrier 4.

Trainer Chris Waller is poised to launch a four-pronged attack on the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes, and is arguably offered his best chance of success via the likes of Opinion and Hoylonny.

Hitting career-best form to date through his maiden Australian prep in autumn, Opinion won the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) on March 1st; finishing second in all of the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m), Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m) and Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) in the weeks following.

Steadily building to the task over two starts this time in, Waller is confident the step-up in distance from his last start over 1800m will play directly into the strengths of Opinion this weekend.

Securing seven wins and nine minor places from 33 competitive starts so far, Hoylonny has been unable to string together much of a consistent run of form in 2014, however has been devastating when finding top gear.

Finishing second in the Listed Winter Cup (2400m) on June 28th, the Lonhro gelding was disappointing when finishing well off the pace in ninth in the Listed Grafton Cup (2350m) on July 10th, but returned to devastating form when taking out the Dooleys Handicap (1800m) ahead of a talented field on August 16th.

Having again been unable to figure when eleventh in the Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) on August 30th, Hoylonny has been charged with overcoming the wide and awkward barrier 15 in the 2014 Kingston Town Stakes.
