Playing God has won the 2011 Kingston Town Classic for the second consecutive year at Ascot Racecourse last Saturday.
The four-year-old won the Kingston Town Classic 2011 by a length ahead of Ranger, who finished second, and King Saul, who placed third.
Railway Stakes winner Luckygray finished three and a half lengths behind Playing God in fifth.
Playing God’s trainer, Neville Parnham, never doubted the horse going into the 2011 Kingston Town Classic despite being just a $19 chance at Luxbet.
“I was very confident the horse was going to be very hard to beat today,” Parnham said.
“We had planned to ride him closer to the speed and it’s been very hard to make up ground today.”
Playing God finished an unimpressive 14th from 16 in the Group 1 Railway Stakes last month.
“I probably over-cooked him in his preparation for the Railway Stakes and originally I wasn’t even going to start him in that race,” Parnham said.
“I knew we had taken the sprint out of his legs leading into the Railway.”
The trainer opted to mix up Playing God’s training prior to his 2011 Kingston Town Classic start.
“We changed his whole training routine around and it has paid off,” he said.
“He’ll go the paddock now.”
The win was a form turnaround for Playing God, who had a less than successful spring carnival in Melbourne.
The Blackfriars entire ran in four Group 1 races during the Melbourne spring racing carnival, with his best result being a third in the Turnbull Stakes at Caulfield.
Playing God also contested the $3 million Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 22, where he finished 11th of 14 runners.
The horse, who was purchased for just $27,000 from the 2009 Perth Magic Millions Yearling sales, has now won seven of his 22 starts and earned more than $1.3 million in prize money.
